Barcoding, Inc. Deploys 2,500 New Handheld Devices for United Rentals

SamsungPhoneBALTIMORE – Dec. 15, 2015 – Barcoding, Inc., a leader in supply chain efficiency, accuracy, and connectivity, announces the successful deployment of 2,500 new handheld devices across North America for United Rentals, the largest equipment rental company in the world. Led by Barcoding’s project management team, the seamless rollout has helped United Rentals minimize downtime and maximize the effectiveness of its mobile route optimization system. After successfully working with Barcoding in its initial mobile solution deployment, United Rentals turned once again to the company to provision and configure hundreds of new Samsung S5s handhelds, equipped with OtterBox® cases and mobile device management (MDM) software. A part of Barcoding’s Professional Services division, Barcoding’s Deployment Project Management Services guided United Rentals through the end-to-end implementation– this included creating a deployment plan, project timeline, communications plan and contingency plan. These efforts ensured that all pieces of the rollout fell into place, kept the project in motion and prevented delays. Barcoding also provided inventory control using BOS™ (Barcoding Online Services), offering United Rentals assurance that the physical inventory was accounted for throughout the life of the project.

“Barcoding is a company that is ahead of its time,” said Mark Moss, systems analyst, United Rentals. “Their project management team really worked to understand our needs and oversee a company-wide device upgrade, while making suggestions along the way.”

Today, Barcoding continues to manage United Rentals’ spare pool. If repairs are needed, Barcoding’s team is responsible for sending out new devices and getting defective ones fixed by the manufacturer.

Shane Snyder, president, Barcoding, Inc., said, “Replacing outdated technology can be a huge undertaking, especially for companies with locations and employees across the map. Therefore, effective project management is key to a successful upgrade. With Barcoding, clients like United Rentals have the benefit of relying on a single entity to guide the entire process – from hardware and software procurement to rollout, to training and go-live – so businesses do not miss a beat in their day-to-day operations.”
