Enhanced Barcode API in Google Mobile Vision Benefits App Developers

This news is slightly dated, but we just came across it on www.AndroidPolice.com and wanted to share it.

The Mobile Vision API that Google released a few months ago now makes it easier for app developers to program an Android device to read barcodes, and apparently, surpasses the ZXing api that many apps use.

"Google is now baking that functionality directly into Play services so developers can use a single API to access a wide range of different 1D and 2D barcode standards.

  • 1D barcodes: EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E, Code-39, Code-93, Code-128, ITF, Codabar
  • 2D barcodes: QR Code, Data Matrix, PDF-417"
