iPhone Apps Help You Find the Cheapest Gas
If you’re one of those pragmatic, sensible people who plan out your trips to the gas station before your warning light is frenetically flashing, congratulations! You'll likely find these gas finder mobile apps useful. Their information on where to buy cheap gas might even spur those less sensible, running on fumes drivers, like me, to plan out more economical stops for gas.
Here are a few of the most popular:
GasBuddy (free):
GasBuddy relies on a network of users reporting gas prices. So, not only can you use the app to locate the lowest priced gas near you, you can also earn rewards for reporting gas prices. Each week, GasBuddy gives away a $250 gift card to a reporting user.
The app, of course, features a map and specific gas station addresses. One commenter, who gave the app four out of five stars, said he’d like to see a way to “favorite frequented gas stations.” That may be an idea for the next upgrade.
GasGuru (free):
GasGuru, much like GasBuddy, reports cheap fuel prices, but they get their fuel price data from OPIS (Oil Price Information Service) in conjunction with Wright Express, a financial and information management company for fleet vehicles.
This app does allow you to save favorite locations and share cheap gas finds on social media. If you’re in need of a cup of Joe or quick cash, you can also see listings with star ratings for coffee, roadside assistance, ATMs, auto repair, and restaurants.
Fuel Finder ($2.99)
FuelFinder is an app, like GasBuddy, whose gas prices are compiled by users. They boast the following differences in their mobile app compared with other free apps out there: a color-coded list view (high, medium, and low), information on other gas station services like car washes, easy interface for uploading gas prices, diesel mode, and Customized Savings Calculation.
YP Local Search and Gas(free): For an all-encompassing local guide, this Yellow Pages mobile app gives you access to cheap gas price comparison, restaurant menus, movie times, business hours, and phone numbers. Ratings and reviews are available, as are thousands of mobile coupons. There is also a search by voice feature, which could prove useful on the road.
Mileage Keeper (free):
Okay, so Mileage Keeper doesn’t locate and publish cheap gas prices, but it will help you track your vehicle’s fuel economy. For those of us who track that sort of thing, that is. The app allows for entries on more than one vehicle (nice comparison tool!), and makes it pretty easy to enter odometer readings and total fuel costs for each refueling. The app will then track your miles per gallon and cost per gallon. You can also add notes to remind you of any variations to your typical driving routine.
The latest version of the app added the ability to enter partial and skipped refueling, based on user requests.
Start shopping around and see what kind of savings you accrue with these mobile apps.
