Zebra Technologies Acquires LaserBand
As healthcare regulation continues to evolve, many hospitals and clinics are in the process of adopting the electronic healthcare record (EHR) protocol. And that means a move toward technologies incorporating bar codes in patient wristbands.
That's where an exciting announcement from Zebra Technologies comes in. The global company recently acquired St. Louis-based LaserBand, the largest company in the world dedicated solely to patient identification. With sales of $24 million in 2011, LaserBand will offer an immediate boost to Zebra's offerings in healthcare technology.
"With the increasing focus on improving patient safety and hospital workflow, Zebra's innovative products and solutions enable healthcare organizations to more easily track people, assets, and information," said Anders Gustafsson, CEO of Zebra. "As a leader in patient identification, LaserBand is an excellent strategic fit as we expand our dedicated healthcare offerings. We are delighted to welcome this talented team to the Zebra family."
Zebra anticipates this transaction will improve the company's supplies portfolio, also bolstering its patent portfolio. The acquisition will also provide new opportunities to market LaserBand products outside of North America.
Congratulations to Zebra and LaserBand!
