AIM NA Releases Position Statements on AIDC in the Public Sector

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | October 26, 2017 | AIM North America (AIM NA), is a trusted industry alliance for the automatic identification industry, providing unbiased information, educational resources and standards, announced the release of four Public Policy Position Statements on the effective use of automatic identification and data capture (AIDC) technologies to support government regulations associated with safe and secure inventory management within the defense, pharmaceutical, food and medical device supply chains.

A fundamental role of government is to ensure that the food people consume, drugs people take, medical devices used by hospitals and providers, and equipment provided to our soldiers, sailors, and airmen are safe. The benefit of AIDC technologies is that they can quickly and accurately identify crucial information about a product, determine product validity and track its exact location throughout the supply chain. 

In the position papers, AIM North America states that AIDC technologies are:

  • Well understood across all global supply chains.
  • Low cost, with either existing readers and devices or nominal investment to upgrade, which can quickly serve to address all specific data collection and date use needs. 

  • Effective in improving the chain of custody of the supply chain from producer to customer.
  • The first layer in the Internet of Things (IoT); enabling the machine-to-machine communication needed for the IoT.
