Student Embeds RFID Chip In Her Fingernail For Easy Subway Access
Source: CNN.com --- Jewelry design student Lucie Davis, 22, of London, made high tech nails for a university project. With the RFID chip that comes on The Tube's Oyster Card inside her nails, she was able to enter and exit, and even add money to her account with the touch of her nails.
Davis is known for making unique jewelry with surprising features out of everyday items. She thought of her commute when designing the RFID nails project, and was able to successfully remove the RFID chip from her Oyster Card and apply it under her nail polish. Davis had to receive special permission from Transport for London for her project, as tampering with Tube cards isn't actually legal, and can result in a fine.
This innovative use of technology received international attention. View the article on CNN.
