Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s announced yesterday that they will be offering a new service, same day home delivery of online and mobile orders. Same day delivery will be offered by Macy’s in eight major cities around the U.S.: Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, New Jersey, San Francisco, San Jose, Seattle and Washington, D.C.; Bloomingdale’s will offer delivery only to Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Jose. Last fall the chains debuted their Buy Online Pickup in Store (BOPS) feature, enabling customers to use their website and mobile sites for purchases and pickup just hours after ordering. The web and mobile technology and adjusted inventory that are already in place from the BOPS initiative will help the same-day delivery service get rolling. Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s themselves will not be doing the delivering - enter Deliv, a crowdsourced same-day delivery service for retailers that has already partnered with national retail giants like Westfield and Simon. In addition to shopping online, brick-and mortar customers will also be able to have purchases delivered to their homes the same day they were bought. With Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s also announcing their intention to be among the first retailers to accept Apple Pay, shopping there will only become more convenient.
