Trimble UHF RFID Modules Updated for Japanese Market Standards

SUNNYVALE, Calif., March 20, 2014 – Trimble (NASDAQ: TRMB) announced today that its ThingMagic® Micro and Micro-LTE UHF RFID modules now operate within the recently ratified 920 MHz ultra-high frequency (UHF) standard in Japan. ThingMagic RFID modules have been tested to operate within most of the world’s regulatory standards, allowing OEMs to integrate high-performance RFID features into products and solutions designed for global operation. The regulatory compliance and regional screening delivered with ThingMagic RFID modules also can reduce the cost and time OEMs need to secure end product certifications.

"Superior performance and versatility across applications continue to be primary differentiators for our embedded RFID products,” said Tom Grant, general manager of Trimble’s ThingMagic Division. “This upgrade reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting global demand for embedded RFID and simplifying the integration of the technology into productivity enhancing solutions."

In addition to broad regulatory standards support in a single SKU, the high-performance features of the ThingMagic Micro and Micro-LTE deliver several competitive advantages including the ability to read RFID tags at over twice the distance of many alternative solutions, the ability to read smaller tags without forfeiting read distance, and the option for OEMs to incorporate smaller antennas into their products without sacrificing tag read performance. Both the Micro and Micro-LTE are designed for high-volume production environments and support board-to-board mounting and solder down surface mounting options.

Development tools available with all ThingMagic RFID modules include the Mercury® API Software Development Kit (SDK) and hardware development kit to help customers begin demonstrating and developing product functionality. With a goal of accelerating innovation, the recently announced ThingMagic Mercury xPRESS Platform provides customers with a flexible and extensible platform to simplify the development of application specific RFID readers and embedded RFID solutions using ThingMagic RFID Modules.
