SensorTags wirelessly identify each asset and capture the integrated sensor data from an assortment of sensors for both real-time and logged history tracking.

The versatile RFID tag has now expanded its repertoire even further with the unveiling of new SensorTags from Ascendent ID. The new sensor tags are built on Ascendent ID's RFID tag platform, and are able to wirelessly identify assets as well as capture and save data from an assortment of sensors, in real-time and as logged history.

The types of information the SensorTags can collect include temperature, humidity, capacitance, flex (resistance), light, contact (open/closed), and specific vapor. The RFID sensor tags are initialized at the load origin for log tracking applications, and then sampled at specific intervals throughout the journey. At arrival, the information is transferred automatically to an RFID reader, and the tag's memory is cleared for a new set of samples. SensorTags can also be queried on-demand for real-time sensor data if it is within range of an RFID reader. The SensorTag family of products is compatible with all of Ascendent ID's readers, with diverse options available to address varying operating conditions and product lifetime.

"Our new sensor options are applicable for a variety of verticals including cold chain, pharmaceutical, shipping container security, and aerospace, " says company President, Doug Crane. "The tags can sample at customer-defined intervals for a documented history of compliance and exceptions."

Ascendent ID's RFID-based SensorTags do away with the need for manual compliance tracking.  The electronic and automated process of capturing load data provides more consistent and accurate information.  The sensor tags make it possible for customers to identify where along the chain of custody an exception occurs, and sometimes even the duration for which it occurs. This data provides a more accurate understanding of any impact on the transported goods due to changing conditions. In some cases, a small temperature increase for 2 minutes might not affect the product's condition, but two days at 10 degrees over the specified temperature would. The SensorTags provide transparency in the process so that customers can make informed decisions about the transportation of valuable goods.
