eBay Produces Its First Mobile App Utilizing RedLaser Bar Code Scanning Technology

The new eBay Selling app enables users to sell directly from their iPhone, allowing them the freedom to sell from anywhere at anytime.

With Redlaser's bar code scanning technology, ebay sellers scan the barcode of an item using the iPhone's built-in camera to research information about the item such as pricing trends and product details. But the real beauty in the app lies not in its ability to access the information, but to automatically import item details and list the item. This means you don't have to manually fill in numerous form fields using the tiny keyboard on your iPhone. And although using your iPhone's camera to take photos is quickly becoming so last year, sellers may also upload a photo of the item directly from their iPhone. Other improvements to the latest version include the ability to re-list items, list Motors Parts & Accessories, end items and leave feedback for buyers.

Ebay just announced that this app is now available internationally. In 2009, eBay generated over $600 million in Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) through its mobile platforms and expects to generate over $1.5 billion in mobile GMV in 2010. Over half of eBay mobile's GMV comes from outside the United States.

Ebay Selling is a free app that can be found on iTunes at http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ebay-selling/id357878618?mt=8.
