NuCurrent, a leading wireless power system and magnetics solution provider, announces the appointment of Jim Crnkovic as vice president of engineering. With over 25 years of experience in engineering, including leading teams that created successful consumer products at AAC and Motorola, Crnkovic will be responsible for NuCurrent’s senior engineering and product leadership.

"We are excited to welcome Jim to the NuCurrent team. He is a dynamic leader that has driven industry-defining wireless products, advanced antenna development and elite engineering teams at AAC and Motorola,” said Jacob Babcock, CEO, NuCurrent. “He's a globally-recognized leader in RF technology and brings additional expertise, vision and delivery capability to our rapidly-growing team.”

Prior to joining NuCurrent, Crnkovic served as director of wireless field engineering at AAC Technologies. Crnkovic led the technical side of AAC’s North America sales team that introduced wireless component technologies as a new part of AAC’s offerings, including LDS antenna technology, RF MEMs tunable capacitors, NFC coils, and wireless power coils. Prior to AAC, he served as director of the Antenna Technology Team at Motorola Mobility, where he developed antenna systems for Motorola leadership products, including Droid RAZR, RAZR MAXX, and Droid 3. Crnkovic also led handset product teams and drove industry wide antenna research and standards efforts to enable radiated performance improvements in cellular phones, and led mechanical simulation team that simulated phone drop testing to uncover internal mechanical stress points.

"NuCurrent is pioneering the newest wireless technology frontier with fascinating technology, fundamental IP and an unparalleled team of experts,” said Crnkovic. “I'm excited to work with customers to deliver wireless power and connectivity solutions that usher in a new age of electronic devices.”

Crnkovic’s hiring follows numerous NuCurrent appointments of experienced alumni of Motorola, Blackberry, Intel, Analog Devices, Molex and Freescale Semiconductor, including Director of Product Engineering Glenn Riese, Sales Director Rob Diebold, and VP of Operations Jim Ticknor. Because of NuCurrent’s team of industry veterans and its wireless power technology, the company has developed a portfolio of over 65 patents granted or pending worldwide, leading to NuCurrent being named No. 1 on 2015 Crain’s Chicago Business Eureka Index with the highest per-capita patent output of any company in Illinois. The company was also listed in the top 10 percent overall in patent quality score, which considers the uniqueness of the invention covered by a patent and other important factors. NuCurrent was also named a 2017 FLEXI Product Innovation Award winner, IoT Breakthrough Awards’ M2M Embedded Hardware Company of the Year, finalist for the 2017 ITA CityLIGHTS Industry Disrupter Award, and a finalist for the 2017 Timmy Best Technology Work Culture Award.
