Tostitos Delivers Big Game Revelers a New Way to Party Safely with Alcohol-Detecting Sensor
Recognizing this, Tostitos created the "Party Safe" bag – a bag of Tostitos chips featuring an alcohol sensor that acts as a reminder for people to not drink and drive after the party so everyone gets home safely. For those not lucky enough to get their hands on one of the limited-edition bags, Tostitos also partnered with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) to offer party-goers $10 off an Uber ride on Sunday, February 5 by using the barcode on the back of nearly every bag of Tostitos chips. This offer applies to both new and existing customers of Uber, but will be limited to the first 25,000 users who enter the code.
"Our goal is to remove 25,000 cars from the roads that Sunday evening," said Jennifer Saenz, Frito-Lay chief marketing officer. "Whether watching the big game at a friend's house or at a local bar, a safe ride home is just a few, easy taps away. By simply entering a participating Tostitos UPC code in the Uber app, fans nationwide can receive $10 off an Uber ride.
"Tostitos partnered with MADD to raise awareness around this issue and to remind party-goers to have fun, but to plan ahead for a non-drinking designated driver to get home safely. In 2015, 45 people were killed in drunk driving crashes, representing nearly half (46 percent) of all traffic fatalities on the day of the Big Game, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration."Having a good time and being safe go hand in hand," said Delanie Walker, professional football Tight End and MADD volunteer, whose aunt and uncle were killed by a drunk driver after watching him play in the 2013 Super Bowl.
"Drunk driving is 100 percent preventable. Thanks to Tostitos and Uber, it's easier than ever to make a safe choice if your plans include alcohol."Earlier this month, Tostitos surprised fans watching playoff football games with the first-ever alcohol-detecting sensor on the limited-edition Tostitos "Party Safe" bags. The bag reminded party-goers to re-think getting behind the wheel after consuming alcohol. The promotional code for $10 off an Uber ride will be available only on the day of the Big Game, in the continental U.S. and Hawaii while supplies and quantities last.
