RTI and National Instruments to Showcase Joint Solution for the IIoT at NIWeek 2016
RTI Leads Technical Session on How to Control Devices at the Edge of the Power Grid Using Connectivity Standards
SUNNYVALE, CA--(Marketwired - Aug 1, 2016) - Real-Time Innovations (RTI)[1], the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) connectivity platform company, today announced the company's participation in NIWeek[2] which takes place August 1-4, 2016 in Austin, Texas. RTI will be offering live demos of the RTI DDS Toolkit for LabVIEW[3], and Brett Murphy[4], Director of Business Development, IIoT at RTI, will be leading a hands-on session titled, "Applying IIoT to the Smart Grid."
RTI and National Instruments[5] (NI) continue to develop a strategic, symbiotic relationship in developing solutions for the Industrial Internet, which will be showcased at NIWeek 2016. RTI will preview the newest version of RTI Connext DDS Toolkit for LabVIEW with support for stringent industrial and critical-infrastructure security requirements. The latest version now includes DDS security support and has been tested on Windows and NI Linux on x86 targets.
The RTI DDS Toolkit for LabVIEW -- which received the 2015 LabVIEW Tools Network Product of the Year award -- provides a high performance and highly scalable software communication infrastructure. Using the DDS Toolkit, users can distribute real-time data between LabVIEW applications, as well as between LabVIEW and other applications, and reliably scale systems to hundreds or even thousands of applications distributed across local- and wide-area networks.
RTI and NI will be demonstrating their joint solutions on the main exhibit floor in RTI's booth (#1020) and in the LabVIEW Tools Network Pavilion (#8091). At booth #1020, RTI will be programming Lego Mindstorms using RTI DDS Toolkit for LabVIEW and at booth #8091, RTI will be simulating an operational Smart Grid also using the RTI DDS Toolkit for LabVIEW.
Challenges in the power grid require responsive, distributed communication and control at the edge that are inherently scalable, reliable and secure. During Murphy's technical session, participants will get an overview of recent developments in the power grid sector of the IIoT and explore the strategic implementation of Open Field Message Bus (OpenFMB), a new way of controlling devices at the edge of the power grid in real-time by applying IoT technologies like Data Distribution Services (DDS). This session will be held on Wed., Aug. 3, 2016 from 4:45-5:45 p.m. CST in room G.
NIWeek is a four-day, multitrack conference that will take place at the Austin Convention Center[6] in Austin, Texas. The event will connect both novice and expert users for interactive technical sessions and hands-on workshops, case study presentations, and panel discussions on the latest advancements in design, control, automation, manufacturing, and test.
