Ports America's Napoleon Container Terminal Puts Customers First With Navis N4 Implementation
Navis, a part of Cargotec Corporation and provider of operational technologies and services that unlock greater performance and efficiency for the world’s leading organizations across the shipping supply chain, today announced that Ports America has implemented N4 at its 47 acre Napoleon Container Terminal in New Orleans, Louisiana. Ports America selected Navis as part of its goal to better service its customers and to remain on the cutting edge of terminal technology innovation.
Over the last five years, container volumes have continued to increase through Napoleon Container Terminal, proving the need for continued technology transformation and adoption at the terminal. With a current annual TEU of 350,000, Napoleon Container Terminal has implemented several technological upgrades including N4 and its VoyagerTrack appointment system to better meet the demands of its customers, including truckers, carriers and shippers. Additionally, the Ports America Gatehouse Complex and Terminal uses the latest Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems at its sites. Putting technology first allows Napoleon Container Terminal to remain competitive in the space while creating new terminal efficiencies and a safer work environment for its employees as operations continue to scale.
“Having N4 in place helps ensure we can effectively manage larger container volumes and meet the evolving demands of our global customer base,” said Keith Palmisano, General Manager, Napoleon Container Terminal. “The seamless implementation process would not have been possible without the collaboration between our operations and IT groups and Navis’ support team. Additionally, thorough simulation and live testing of gate, yard and vessel processes prior to our go-live, was essential for ensuring the TOS would perform as designed from day one.”
Customers of Napoleon Container Terminal also have access to Ports America TOS Web Portal, which interfaces with the Navis N4 system to provide them with real-time information to track cargo from arrival to when it is available to be picked up, providing added visibility to customers.
“As technology plays an increasingly important role in terminal operations, we are always looking for ways to partner with our customers to help meet their unique business and operational goals,” said Susan Gardner, General Manager, Americas. “We are thrilled our N4 TOS was selected to help take Napoleon Container Terminal’s operations to the next level and are pleased that the system is already creating new efficiencies for the terminal.”
