AIM Named Innovation Award Winner at 2017 Label Industry Global Awards Gala

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | September 28, 2017 | AIM, the trusted worldwide industry association for the automatic identification industry, providing unbiased information, educational resources and standards for nearly half a century, has been selected as the winner of the 2017 Award for Innovation by the Label Industry Global Awards for its Ultracode International Symbology Standard.

Ultracode, released by AIM in 2016, is a process innovation that enables the automatic capture of data by any digital color camera or smartphone. The process utilizes the first international standard 2D color barcode (Ultracode) which is printable by any RGB or CMYK process color, inkjet or toner technology.  The code, together with advanced data compaction schemes and URLs encodes data in less than half the area of a QR code using the same modular size.

When news of AIM's selection was announced, Chief Operating Officer Mary Lou Bosco issued this statement.  "AIM is both excited and deeply honored to be chosen as a 2017 Award for Innovation winner by the Label Industry Global Awards judges.  The Ultracode project is truly unique and came to fruition as a result of years of collaboration by a team of AIM experts.  This award is a testament to their dedication and never give up spirit."

Created in 2004, the Label Industry Global Awards are the industry's highest accolades, celebrating the integrity, innovation and impact of individuals and organizations in three categories -- Lifetime Achievement, Innovation and Sustainability.  Selected from a wide field of nominees that was culled to five finalists, AIM was chosen as the Innovation winner for companies with up to 300 employees by a panel of industry experts.

Mike Fairley, internationally known writer, publisher and consultant in the printing, packaging, security and label industries, who served as chairman of the judges shared this comment.  "It is through the sheer determination and tenacity...that our industry has continued to push the boundaries of excellence and technology to meet and exceed the challenges that we all face. On behalf of the judging panel, I would like to commend and congratulate...our winners and thank them for giving us an excellent showcase of their spirit and commitment...I hope their success stories help inspire others to push ahead with our industry’s continued development and give us extra drive for improvement in the future.”

AIM's Award for Innovation was presented earlier this week in Brussels during a special ceremony at the Gala dinner attended by more than 500 industry peers as part of this year's Labelexpo Europe.  Accepting the award on behalf of AIM and its membership was member Dan Bartlett of Cognex Corporation.

The Ultracode International Symbology Standard and related documents are available to all interested parties on the AIM website.
