Vanguard ID Systems Partners with Alaska Airlines to Unveil Electronic Bag Tag
WEST CHESTER, PA (PRWEB) APRIL 13, 2016
Vanguard ID Systems – leading innovator and pioneers of the Auto ID manufacturing industry – is partnering with Alaska Airlines to launch ViewTag, an electronic baggage tag that allows travelers to speed through the check-in process and shave minutes off the time it takes to check a bag.
Richard Warther, the President and Founder of Vanguard ID Systems, estimates there is a projected 4.6% growth every year for the next 20 years of people traveling by air, and the way luggage is handled now with paper tags doesn’t allow for much data integrity in the system.
“We need better tools in which to work with the data,” says Warther, “and that’s where we come in. We recognized where the problem was and developed the technology to find the solution. ViewTag is a revolutionary product that will change the face of travel forever.”
How it works: Passengers will have the option to program their ViewTag when they check-in online. When prompted, passengers can select the number of bags to be checked and complete check in, then turn on the electronic bag tag to prepare for synching. The ViewTag will easily update passengers’ travel information with any Bluetooth smartphone. At the airport, customer service agents will check your ID, scan the bag tag and send you on your way; a process that is significantly faster than traditional check-in. Passengers are able to re-use their tags for at least two years. The goal is five years.
Alaska Airlines – a brand with a long history of being willing to go out on a limb and test new technology – has been testing the ViewTag’s capabilities and is set to schedule a launch of the breakthrough product this summer by testing 500 units of ViewTag with its top tier flyers. Read more about the test on the Alaska Airlines blog.
Vanguard ID Systems has been working with The International Air Travel Association (IATA) to ensure that these tags can be used by all airlines in the future. The ViewTag complies with IATA’s Best Practices for electronic bag tags, as well as all FAA and TSA regulations.
