Honeywell Bar-code Patent Upheld
FORT MILL, S.C., Oct. 9, 2015 –In its final written decision, the United States Patent and Trademark Office recently upheld the validity of a patent from Honeywell (NYSE: HON) on core technology used in bar-code imagery devices.
In its ruling in the case of Fujian Newland Computer Co., Ltd. vs. Hand Held Products, Inc., the Patent Trial and Appeal Board determined that the petitioner failed to provide sufficient evidence to demonstrate that the Honeywell-owned patent was invalid.

Honeywell has more than 36,000 patents and patents pending worldwide, and we file more than 1,000 new and original patents on technologies each year.”
The technology reviewed in the trial involves image data collection hardware for two-dimensional bar codes, which are used in a range of markets around the world.
Honeywell acquired Hand Held Products in 2007, and it is now integrated into the Honeywell Sensing and Productivity Solutions business.
