New QR Code App Could Change Lives For Kids with Special Needs
The new ShowMeQR app from Gus Communication Devices, Inc. has many applications - it could be used for employee training, for customers, and for children of any age. Where the app really stands out, though, is its potential to help children with special needs both at home and in the classroom.
The program is comprised of two separate apps, the Manager and the Scanner. The Manager app is used to create custom printable QR codes that can link back to video or text instructions. The Scanner app is what reads those codes.
With the ShowMeQR Manager app, a parent or teacher can create a video demonstrating a certain task - anything from tying shoelaces to multiplication, depending on the needs of the child. The app will associate the video with a specific QR code that can be printed from any smartphone or other device. The video will then be stored in a dedicated cloud, and available for download by the Scanner App, which runs offline but requires updates. For a video about how to tie one’s shoes, the printed QR code could be affixed to, say, the shoe rack. The next time a child needs help tying her shoes, she can use her own device to scan the code and watch the video you’ve created.
The benefits of an app like this are limitless for children in general, but especially those with special needs. The most obvious benefit is that all instructions for users will be coming from a familiar source like a parent or teacher. The most important thing is that an app like this allows children and adults of all skill levels to be independent.
The app was developed originally to assist veterans suffering from cognitive disorders as a result of combat injuries. It has applications for individuals with any type of cognitive disorder, including those with Alzheimer’s.
The ShowMeQR Scanner and Manager app are available in at an introductory discounted price of $.99 and $2.99, respectively. Ordinarily they are priced at $2.99 and $9.99.
