Mobile Commerce Revenue Doubles for Online Retailers

Boston, MA (PRWEB) April 14, 2014

Mobile commerce is red hot and this was reinforced today by quarterly data released by leading solution provider Unbound Commerce. A broad index of 350+ retailers using Unbound’s Mobile Presence® platform to power their mobile commerce sites saw a combined, aggregate increase in mobile commerce revenue of 101.45% in Q1 2014, as compared to the same period last year.

Mobile commerce revenue was not the only category to see significant growth, as unique visitors rose 36.5% and the total mobile page views rendered jumped 56% for the period measured. Consumers are not only using mobile devices more often for shopping, they are converting sales at a higher rate. 2014 same-store conversion rates jumped up 29%, versus the same period 2013.

The total number of transactions for same-stores in the measured period was up 82.44% and the fact that this number lags behind total revenue shows that consumers are spending more per mobile transaction. Bounce rates were trending down, but only slightly, at -1.28%.

The average order value (AOV) for Unbound’s mobile commerce clients jumped from $82.66 to $92.77, an increase of more than 12%. By comparison, US total January 2014 eCommerce AOV was up just 1.3% over January 2013 (Custora).

“In almost every field we measure for, mobile commerce continued to grow rapidly in Q1 2014,” said Wilson Kerr Unbound Commerce VP Business Development and Sales. “We are adding new user interface features and enhancements all the time to increase consumer adoption and reduce friction. This drives more revenue through a channel consumers are increasingly likely to use,” he added.

Tablet commerce sites are being requested by a growing number of Unbound clients and Q1 saw the simultaneous launch of mobile and tablet sites for multiple retailers, all based on a dedicated, integrated build methodology. Google Wallet Instant Buy is now an option for Unbound clients, and pre-configured APIs exist for Demandware, Oracle/ATG, Magento, Yahoo eCommerce, and other popular eCommerce platforms. In addition, Unbound recently launched an in-store Touch Commerce program, where large format touch screens are used to access the “endless aisle” and deliver rich media such as video, to bridge the online to offline worlds and support retail stores.
