Quick response codes gained popularity in 2011, making contests and sweepstakes even more accessible for those with smartphones. We expect the trend to continue in 2012.
The year 2011 has seen a number of high-profile publicity campaigns by companies using QR codes. Customers can scan these two-dimensional bar codes with the camera in their smartphones and connect to websites with special offers or competitions. Examples like Ralph Lauren’s marketing using QR codes for its “Polo” clothing range and Heinz connecting with customers via QR codes on its ketchup bottles were demonstrations of the attraction that these “next-generation barcodes” can have when combined with the fun of a contest or a sweepstake.
